My Thanksgiving Ponderings by Fran Hafey/Mysti
Even though the sky's been gray for days and rain falls upon the
fallen leaves, cheer is in the air for some
preparing for their holiday feasts and family gatherings. We've
had many blessings throughout the year and some
ups and downs too that make life interesting to say the least.
I occasionally hear on the news or radio people asking for us to
give to help others during the Holidays and I
can't help but think of how we should do this all year long. I
may sound a little offbeat, but I still haven't figured
out why the Holidays should be any different. I live in Virginia
so is it the snow, the lights, the Holiday
decorations? Is it because the calendar says something happened
once upon a time many many years ago and
we should celebrate this time by spending until we hurt and can't
pay our bills or eat until we're sick? I made a
conscious choice not to do that anymore, years ago. I love to
give but I refuse to teach my Grandchildren that's
this is a time of receiving everything they've seen on television
and that this is a time of getting and not giving. One day,
years from now, they will remember the importance of what I
instilled in them and incorporate their own traditions
into their celebrations too.
I like to give people things they like and want too, but I also
give gifts that make people think. Oh, I may give some pajamas,
socks, a toy or two, but I like to give books and gifts that are
laid upon my heart, knowing they will also touch my loved
ones heart too. I believe a kind word, a loving hug, a gentle
smile, patience and a warm cookie can heal so much.
In a time when people are searching for the meaning of their
lives, I feel my gifts all year long definitely come from my
heart.
My wish for now and every day and year is that people slow down
and really, truly see how blessed they are.
I know there are people all over the world that don't have enough
to eat, warm clothes, a place to live... but I also know, I can
help
people, one person at a time. I do my part all year long, do you?
I only wish I could do more, but I do know, I do the best I can
do
and my heart has peace with that. I also know this next year, I
will do even better, because I have love, peace and light in my
heart and right now... I share some of it with you. Many
blessings all for a wonderful Thanksgiving. Please take
the time to slip away from the hustle and bustle for a moment and
just give thanks to your Higher Power and have faith that
if there are things in your life that need more attention or a
miracle, that when we give thanks that we've already received
it or something even better... that all things come in Divine
timing and when we're truly ready.
